The Imperial Senate was retained to maintain an illusion of representation and manage local affairs for years. Simultaneously, Order 66 eliminated the Jedi leadership, removing the primary check against the new regime's power. The doctrine prioritized Human High Culture, viewing alien species as inferior or expendable resources within a rigid hierarchy demanding total loyalty, though it was not until later in the Galactic Civil War that Palpatine finally dissolved the Senate entirely. Supreme Chancellor Palpatine, secretly the Sith Lord Darth Sidious, orchestrated a self-coup by falsely accusing the Jedi Order of instigating the conflict to seize absolute power. After manipulating the Senate into authorizing the use of clone troopers to purge the Jedi, he reorganized the Republic into an autocracy designed to ensure security and stability. This transition was met with overwhelming support from the Senate, who praised Palpatine's apparent bravery and selflessness.
